Memorial Day Activities in Sparta

Sponsored by the Sparta American Legion Post #100 and VFW Post #2112.

Breakfast from 6AM-9AM at the VFW – 121 South Rusk Avenue.
After breakfast, the color guard will move to St. Patrick’s Cemetery to honor the fallen heroes at 8AM and then to the Leon Cemetery at 9AM.

Sparta’s Memorial Day parade begins at 10AM and will pass through downtown on Water Street and end at Blyton Park where Fort McCoy’s Garrison Commander Stephen Messenger will be the keynote speaker. Following the Blyton Park ceremony, a commemorative ceremony will be held at the VFW to honor those lost at sea with a floating of the wreath.

A chicken Q starts at 11AM at the American Legion – 1116 Angelo Road. A cash raffle will raise funds for children and youth programs. The drawing will be at 3PM. The VFW is also conducting raffles from 12PM-6PM for youth programs and will have meat raffles. Final drawing will be at 6PM.
