WIAA Football Playoff Pods Announced

By Adam Roberts – 11/9/2020

While the regular season continues for one more week in Minnesota, we’ve have arrived at the postseason in Wisconsin, though it will be a completely different format from anything we’re used to.

If you missed my summary from last week’s High School Football Preview or our post on Facebook Saturday, here’s how it works: The field essentially boils down to around 197 teams (pending further opt outs), divided into six divisions with eight-team regional groups. The groups will then be broken down into four-team “pods”, which have been put together ideally featuring the one through four seeds in one pod and the five through eight seeds in a second pod. As mentioned above, It’s also important to note that teams can opt out of this playoff format, and we’ve seen a few that already have across the state.

Here are the Coulee Region teams that have opted in and their first level match ups (All games are Friday, November 13th at 7pm):

  • Portage @ Onalaska
  • Tomah @ Baraboo
  • Westby @ Prairie du Chien
  • Viroqua @ Nekoosa
  • Osseo-Fairchild @ Luther
  • Aquinas @ Darlington
  • Melrose-Mindoro @ Lancaster
  • C-FC @ Blair-Taylor
  • De Soto @ Potosi/Cassville

ESPN La Crosse 105.5 is still ironing out where we’ll be Friday night, but once we know, we’ll let you know!
