The Golden Boy had passed away.
After fighting against dementia for many years, Lombardi-era Hall of Famer Paul Hornung has died at the age of 84.
The Golden Boy is being remembered by many on social media today, and for good reason. His on-field accomplishments are lengthy, including a 1956 Heisman Trophy at Notre Dame, being named the first overall draft selection for the Packers in 1957, four NFL Championships with Green Bay, and an induction into both the college and Pro Football Hall of Fame (1985 and 86 classes respectively).
Hornung is one of only seven players to win the Heisman and be named NFL MVP, and he achieved his Heisman honor despite playing for a 2-8 Fighting Irish team in ’56. He also set a scoring record in 1960; his 176 points on touchdowns, field goals, and extra points would stand for 46 years. Hornung is the only player in NFL history to have scored 50 touchdowns and kicked 50 field goals.
