While winter sports have begun or are beginning for most Wisconsin high schools, Minnesota remains on pause due to Governor Tim Walz’s executive order. And now the pause will continue into next year.
Today, an update to the order stated that organized youth sports are to remain on hold until at least January 4th. With the 10 day requirement between first practice and first competition, that puts the first possible date for games to begin at January 14th, which would be about halfway through most standard winter sport seasons.
Thus far, winter sports have avoided the mass cancellations that plagued most of the high school football season, but of course most seasons have just begun, and with the holidays around the corner, there could be more cases cropping up in the next few weeks.
