Winona State Men and Women Lose to Minn-Duluth; Games on Sunday Cancelled

By Adam Roberts – 1/4/2021

Neither team on the floor Saturday had played a game in about 11 months, but both were eager to get rolling this weekend when the Winona State and Minnesota-Duluth men returned to the floor.

In the actual game, the Warriors were unable to maintain a perimeter shooting game, going 6-27 from three, while the Bulldogs hit 13 on their way to an 81-59 win.

On a positive note, it was a good game for senior Kevion Taylor. The Milwaukee native and ’19-’20 NSIC First Teamer scored 23 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

It didn’t take too long for COVID to reach its meddling paws into affairs once again, however. The teams had to cancel their scheduled rematch on Sunday due to virus concerns. No makeup date has been announced, but for now the Warriors’ scheduled game Friday against SW Minnesota State is still on.

Meanwhile, the women also struggled on Saturday, shooting in the low 20s from the field in their 68-27 loss to the Bulldogs.

Senior guard Allie Pickrain led the Warriors with 15 points and five rebounds, closely followed by senior Taylor Hustad with 10.

The women also had their scheduled rematch called off yesterday.
