Brewers Begin Exhibition Series Today Against Texas

By Adam Roberts – 3/29/2021

The traditional final tune-up before Opening Day begins today for the Brewers, who visit the new Globe Life Park in Arlington for a two-game series against the Rangers.

As the week begins, the most recent Brewers’ news has been that Daniel Vogelbach has earned his way onto the Brewers’ roster. He will be utilized as a power hitter off the bench and play first base sporadically. Elsewhere on the roster, reliever Justin Topa will start the season on the injured list with an elbow issue. With Topa out, the Brewers re-signed Brad Boxberger to a minor-league contract after releasing him Friday.

As for the season ahead, general manager David Stearns is as usual optimistic for year, but said that after a shortened season a year ago, health will be the biggest factor in teams’ success or failures in 2021.

“Health is paramount, there’s so much unknown about what we’re heading into this year” Stearns said Friday. “So health is important, we’ve got to keep our guys healthy.” Stearns added that this could include extra off days that wouldn’t normally happen in other years.

The Brewers play two games in Arlington today and tomorrow, then have a day off before opening American Family Field on Thursday against the Minnesota Twins. Brandon Woodruff will start for the Crew.
