A sorely missed boon to the La Crosse area economy will be back this June.
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse have agreed to continue planning for the State Track & Field Championships at Veterans Memorial Stadium in June 24th through the 26th. Last year the event was just another of the big events we’ve grown accustomed to that was axed due to the pandemic.
While the event will return for this year, there will be some necessary changes. The event will be split up into three days separated by divisions, with D3 starting on the 24th, D2 on the 25th, and D1 on the 26th. Also, the crowd at each day will be limited to 5,500 fans.
The State Track & Field Championships have been held at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the campus of UWL since 1990. The event is the longest running State High School meet in the country with origins dating back to 1895.
