It’s been a very crazy few days for me since about last Monday.
That day I learned a family member had passed away, and I immediately went into family-first mode. As such, I was gone Thursday and Friday and missed out on the high school football action, with a notably shorter High School Football Preview this past week (don’t worry, we’re back to full-length this week!) And yesterday, I took a day for myself and wound up in Milwaukee, deciding on a whim to check out the Brewers-Cubs finale at AmFam before heading back.
The Cubs used a pair of home runs to power their way past the Brewers with a 6-4 win in Milwaukee. Trayce Thompson and Patrick Wisdom both went yard for Chicago as Wisdom set the Cubs’ rookie record with his 27th home run. That bomb came off the arm of Brad Boxberger, who had a very difficult outing recording no outs and surrendering those three-runs on the Wisdom dinger.
Christian Yelich drove in two runs in the ninth as Milwaukee tried for a last-inning comeback. The effort was a valiant one, but ended with the bases loaded on a Jace Peterson popout.
Milwaukee is 91-and-58 and will host the Cardinals tonight with the magic number to clinch the NL Central still at three. St. Louis enters AmFam as one of the hottest teams in baseball on an eight-game win streak.
