Packers Beat Lions 35-17; Waive TE Jace Sternberger

By Adam Roberts – 9/21/2021

If you’re like me, that first half of the Packers-Lions game last night had us all shifting around uncomfortably on our coach, in our seats, at the bar, wherever. Trailing a team like Detroit 17-14 is not what you want to see after hoping all week for a big bounce back game.

Turns out, we just needed to be patient for one more half.

Aaron Rodgers went 22/27 for 255 yards and four touchdowns, three of which fell into the hands of running back Aaron Jones, and the defense seemed to tighten up in the second half of the 35-17 Packer victory. Jones had the biggest night production-wise with an additional touchdown on the ground for four all-purpose scores. His big night included briefly losing the chain he had around his neck containing his father’s ashes, but a member of the grounds crew was able to find it in the end zone later (to be fair, Jones said when being interviewed by ESPN that if there was any place his father would’ve wanted him to lose it, it would be in the end zone).

In other team news, the team appeared to confirm today that tight ends Robert Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis will be the primaries at that position with the release of Jace Sternberger. The Kansas product had just finished serving a two-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy after falling asleep behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol and anti-depressants in February of last year.

The Packers hit the road next Sunday night to face Jimmy G and the 49ers.
