When JJ Redick was traded from the Orlando Magic to the Milwaukee Bucks, he said he cried at the Orlando airport. I’m sure this was much more related to him leaving his teammates and friends in Orlando rather than having to move to Milwaukee, but it still makes for an interesting lead-in to the news that the NBA is losing of one its top sharpshooters in recent league history.
Redick announced his retirement from the NBA, after playing 15 seasons at the pro level. The 37-year-old guard averaged 12.8 points per game and shot an impressive 44.7 percent from deep. He ranks 15th in league history with 1,950 career made three-pointers. That all came after his storied college career at Duke, where he is still the program’s all-time leading scorer and set multiple ACC records. Redick had his number-4 jersey retired by the Blue Devils and was the Naismith College Player of the Year in 2006.
Redick played for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2013 after a big six player trade; his numbers were a bit more pedestrian than at other times in his career with a 12.3 PPG average and a 31.8 three-point percentage.
