Packers Trade CB Josh Jackson To NY Giants For Isaac Yiadom

By Adam Roberts – 8/17/2021

We have ourselves a training camp trade, with the Green Bay Packers offloading struggling cornerback Josh Jackson in exchange for a different NFC corner.

ESPN Giants reporter Jordan Raanan and Packers beat writer Rob Demovsky report the Packers have traded Jackson to the Giants and will receive Isaac Yiadom. Yiadom previously had been acquired in a deal between the Giants and Denver Broncos last year, and he started 10 games at corner for New York.

Jackson meanwhile leaves Green Bay after a difficult end to his time in Titletown. After his rookie year, production declined sharply for Jackson and his performance in the team’s preseason game last weekend against Houston likely didn’t inspire the coaching staff. Jackson was targeted by the Texans 10 times and he gave up 7 receptions.

In Yiadom, the Pack get a corner who has allowed a completion rate of 67 percent on 142 targets with one interception and nine pass breakups.

In other Packers news, by this evening the team needs to be at 85 players on the roster. They currently have 88 after the Jackson-Yiadom deal, so three more names will have to go.

UW-Madison Unveils COVID Guidelines For Badger Football Games

By Adam Roberts – 8/16/2021

While everyone is certainly happy to see stadiums filled with fans once again, we can’t ignore the fact that COVID is still very much a thing and that guidelines will still be in effect at every stadium to different extents.

Today, UW-Madison released their COVID guidelines for fans attending games at Camp Randall this fall, and they include these policies on masks:

  • All ticketed fans must wear masks when in an indoor area of Camp Randall regardless of vaccination status, unless actively eating and drinking. This includes restrooms, elevators, and club seating areas.
  • Masks are strongly encouraged in outdoor public spaces but won’t be required. These areas include the entry gates and seating bowl.

The protocols take effect starting this Saturday, when the school hosts the “Badgers Are Back (To Back)” event.

Wisconsin opens the season September 4th against #19 Penn State on ESPN La Crosse 105.5.

Packer QB Jordan Love Uncertain For Saturday vs NY Jets

By Adam Roberts – 8/16/2021

The future of the franchise (at least that’s the assumption) had a mostly good performance in the two quarters he played Saturday. His stats read like so: 12-17, one touchdown pass, a lost fumble, and a 110.4 quarterback rating.

But Jordan Love may not be able to play in the Packers’ next preseason games due to a shoulder tweak during the second.

Love underwent an MRI for a shoulder strain he suffered in Saturday’s preseason loss over the Houston Texans, and while the MRI came back clean, the Packers might keep him out for the next preseason game.

When asked if Love could miss Saturday’s game against the Jets, Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur said, “Potentially, yeah.” At practice today, Love was in his practice jersey but rather than participate was sent to the Hudson Center for a rehab day.

Wisconsin FB Ranked 12th in Preseason AP Poll

By Adam Roberts – 8/16/2021

More Badger rankings, yay!

Wisconsin is ranked 12th in the first preseason Associated Press poll of the 2021 season. Last week, the Badgers were listed 15th in the first coaches poll.

The rest of the Big Ten shakes up like this: Ohio State is fourth while also receiving one first place vote (the WIDE majority naturally went to Alabama), and then Indiana, Iowa, and Penn State fill out the 17th, 18th, and 19th spots respectively. Michigan and Northwestern both received votes but finished out of the Top 25.

Badger football starts back up on ESPN La Crosse 105.5 September 4th as Wisconsin welcomes the 19th-ranked Nittany Lions to Camp Randall!

No GA Fans Allowed At Little League World Series

By Adam Roberts – 8/13/2021

Tell me if this sounds familiar from last year: a sporting event will have no general admission fans due to COVID concerns.

There will be no general admission fans in attendance at the Little League World Series this year. Little League International announced today it made the difficult decision because of the rising number of COVID-19 cases caused by the highly-contagious Delta variant. President and CEO Stephen Keener said they will limit people in the stands in Williamsport, Pennsylvania to family and friends of the 16 participating teams.

The tournament starts August 19th and concludes at the end of this month. There was no tournament last year because of the pandemic.

Thanasis Antetokounmpo Signs Two-Year Deal With Bucks

By Adam Roberts – 8/13/2021

It appears as though the Milwaukee Bucks are taking the approach of Vin Diesel when it comes to Thanasis Antetokounmpo.

“You don’t turn your back on family”

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Milwaukee has agreed to a two-year deal with the older Antetokounmpo brother on the roster. Thanasis played in 57 games during the Bucks’ championship season, averaging 2.9 points and 2.2 rebounds. He also appeared in 13 playoff games this postseason for Milwaukee, albeit with minimal time on the floor.

It’s the latest Bucks move this offseason, following the signing of former Buck George Hill and former Grizzlies wing guard Grayson Allen, plus the re-signing of Bobby Portis.

Per WXOW sports director Scott Emerich, a legend in the La Crosse sports community has passed away.

#13 Viterbo W. Volleyball Starts Season With Sweep of #20 Keiser

By Adam Roberts – 8/12/2021

Viterbo women’s volleyball moved up three spots this week in the NAIA poll this week, the same week that they were unveiled as favorites to win the NSAA. This afternoon the team proved exactly why they will be a force to be reckoned with once again.

The V-Hawks visited a very respectable opponent in Keiser University today, and made quick work of the home team in a straight sets win.

Viterbo has a pretty stacked schedule to start the year this week, continuing tomorrow against #24 Bethel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

‘Field Of Dreams’ Game Set For This Evening

By Adam Roberts – 8/12/2021

While by no means a Cubs fan in any capacity, one of my bucket list places to go watch a baseball game is Principal Park in Des Moines, Iowa, site of the Triple A Iowa Cubs. Between the clean facility and the view of the state capitol building in left field there seems to be a very home-y feel to the stadium, which is in conjunction with feelings travelers have often associated with this part of the country.

Of course, the idea of major league baseball in Iowa has long been shrugged off due to the market just not being there and the teams that occupy the surrounding area.

Until tonight, when two major league franchises will descend upon a makeshift ball field at the edge of a large batch of corn.

The first-ever regular season Major League Baseball game to be played in Iowa is set for this evening and it’s definitely being play up as a big deal. The Chicago White Sox will play the New York Yankees in the “Field Of Dreams” game. The game is being played at the site of the 1989 film near Dyersville, Iowa. The film’s star Kevin Costner has already given the stadium his seal of approval. The game was originally expected to be played last season but was postponed over COVID concerns.

The field will be built to hold up to 8,000 fans.

Packers and Vikings Release Their First Depth Charts of Training Camp

By Adam Roberts – 8/11/2021

The Packers and Vikings are making things clear where their rosters stand this week with the first depth charts of training camp released.

There weren’t many surprises on the Packer depth chart; cornerback Kevin King is still listed as a starter despite having been out with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, the usual suspects are starting for the Vikings in their latest chart with quarterback Kirk Cousins, running back Dalvin Cook, and wide receivers Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson all first string. First-round pick Christian Darrisaw is the backup left tackle.

The preseason begins for both teams this Saturday; Green Bay will host Houston and Minnesota welcomes Denver.
